The 6^th Grade Band class at CC Griffin Middle School introduces students to the fundamentals of music and music performance.  Music concepts such as rhythm, pitch, dynamics, and tone quality will be introduced and reinforced throughout the first year in band.  Students will also learn basic operation and care for their selected instrument.  Auditions are held during the year for select students to pursue percussion.  Band students are expected to obtain their own instruments and are required to attend all performances throughout the year.

The 7^th Grade Percussion class at CC Griffin Middle School is a stand-alone class that covers beginning percussion concepts.  Students will learn basic performance techniques for a variety of instruments including snare drum, bass drum, bells, and auxiliary percussion.  Percussionists will also perform with the 7^th Grade Winds class in at least two performances throughout the year.  Prerequisites include participation in 6^th Grade Band and an audition.

The 7^th Grade Winds class at CC Griffin Middle School is a continuation of the 6^th Grade Band class.  Students will learn intermediate music concepts (rhythm, pitch dynamics, tone quality) that are a continuation of skills learned in the previous year.  Students will participate in at least two performances throughout the year and may have the opportunity to perform with the 8^th Grade Band at MPA in the Spring.  Prerequisites include participation in 6^th Grade Band or a satisfactory audition.

The 8^th Grade Percussion class at CC Griffin Middle School is a stand-alone class that covers intermediate percussion concepts designed to build off content from the previous year.  Students will learn continuing performance techniques for a variety of instruments including snare drum, bass drum, bells, timpani, chimes, and auxiliary percussion.    Percussionists will also perform with the 8^th Grade Winds class in at least two performances throughout the year as well as MPA in the Spring.  Prerequisites include participation in 7^th Grade Percussion or a satisfactory audition.

The 8^th Grade Winds class at CC Griffin Middle School is a continuation of the 7^th Grade Winds class.  Students will learn advanced music concepts (rhythm, pitch dynamics, tone quality) that are a continuation of skills learned in the previous year.  Students will participate in at least two performances throughout the year as well as MPA in the Spring.  Prerequisites include participation in 7^th Grade Band or a satisfactory audition.
